Sony Xperia Z is one smartphone to look out for in 2013. It was announced at CES 2013 along with another great smartphone, the Sony Xperia ZL. Sony Xperia Z features a 5-inch touch display with full HD resolution and a 13 megapixels camera. Xperia Z is waterproof and can handle up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes.

Looks & Power Combined

The Sony Xperia Z looks great. It is not the slimmest smartphone you will see in 2013, but it will be up there being just 7.9mm thick. It comes with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. Like all Android phones, it will feature Google's full range of software.

Sony Xperia Z supports superfast internet for video streaming and other mobile broadband services. It features LTE with up to 100Mbps download speed and HSPA+ with up to 42Mbps. The built-in mobile hotspot features enables you create a Wi-Fi hotspot for sharing your high-speed data plan with your other wireless devices.

Full HD Display & Camera

Sony Xperia Z features a stunning display. The display is 5-inch diagonal but is pixel packed with full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution. The display renders up to 16 million colours and features a Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2, giving as real live view as is possible with today's technology. Sony Xperia Z also comes with an advanced multi-touch display that can sense up to 10 fingers at a time.

A number of highend Android phones for 2013 feature 13 mega pixels camera. The Sony Xperia Z is following this tradition with its very own 13MP camera. The camera can record full HD video and comes with a video light as well as an LED flash. You also get the usual autofocus, geo-tagging, video/image stabilisation, and face detection. However, unlike the Sony Xperia ZL, the Xperia Z does not come with a dedicated camera key.

Pricing & Availability

Sony Xperia Z is not yet available. It is expected in select markets in Europe from February 21, 2013. It is not yet available in Nigeria. There is no information on pricing, but based on rumoured price in other markets, we expect the Sony Xperia Z to cost around N110,000 when launched in Nigeria.
