We checked out the smartphones that you could buy for under #60,000 the last time. Some of you might have wanted more specs than what that list offered and we perfectly understand that.

If you also understand that you might have to add something light before you get that next line of spec you want, here are the best android phones under 70000 naira on the market right now.

1 Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro

Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro

Samsung does know how to turn up for the upper midrange market and that is what they have done with the Galaxy J3 Pro too. On this device, they made a 5-inch PLS capacitive touchscreen to house a quad-core Exynos 7570 processor that was paired to 2GB of RAM.

The internal storage is pegged at 16GB but can be taken as far as 128GB with the dedicated microSD card slot. The user is also given an 8MP snapper on the back and a 5MP selfie camera to handle still and motion image shooting.

While there are no additional sensors on board, the 2600mAh battery will be decent enough to last a mild user a while. Running Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, this dual-SIM unit comes with readiness for 4G networks

2 Infinix Note 4 Pro

Infinix Note 4 Pro

The Infinix Note 4 Pro is seen by most as the only improvement over the Note 3/ Note 3 Pro devices from the previous year. Coming with a stylus pen (does not ship with the main phone though), this 5.7-inch smartphone has an FHD screen.

Beneath that is the octa-core processor that clocks as much as 1.3GHz on its good day. Finished with metal on the back, the unit also has a cutout for a 13MP sensor and its single LED flash. On the front is not only the 8MP sensor on top but a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button.

Offering as much as 4500mAh in battery capacity, the Note 4 Pro comes 4G-ready, supports dual SIMs and runs on Android 7.1 (upgradable to Android 8 Oreo) out of the box. Lest we forget, it keeps an internal configuration of 3GB RAM on 32GB internal memory

3 Nokia 5

Nokia 5

Nokia 5 is one of the midrange offerings from the Finnish company, but it looks more than just that. Complete with a premium build, the Nokia 5 features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD touchscreen, 13MP main camera with dual LED flash and an 8MP sensor on the front.

The front part of the unit also has a fingerprint sensor for added security. That completes the list of things that can be seen on the outside.

Diving in, we find that this unit is run by an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor that is married to 2GB of RAM for faster computing power. With the ability to reach as much as 1.4GHz in clock speed, the smartphone comes with 16GB internal storage space which can be bumped up to 128GB.

Running on Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box, you also get a non-removable 3000mAh battery to keep the lights on.

4 Motorola Moto G5

Motorola Moto G5

The Motorola Moto G5 starts out with a 5-inch screen at 1080p with full HD support. It then continues that nice run with the introduction of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 43 processor at the heart of affairs. This octa-core chipset which clocks 1.4GHz is further paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable memory.

Moving on, the Moto G5 comes with a fingerprint reader for added security purposes, packing support for dual SIM too. The front glass is kept company by the 5MP wide-angle snapper.

On the back, we have a metal casing to complete the premium build. On the metal casing is a 13MP snapper and its LED flash. Rounding off with Android 7.0 Nougat, we have a 2800mAh battery keeping the smartphone alive.

5 Gionee A1 Lite

Gionee A1 Lite

The beautiful Gionee A1 Lite comes with a full premium build, packing metal on the back with a 5.3 HD screen on the front. That is not the only thing on the front though as that is where we also get the massive 13MP snapper.

Since the selfie camera is that big, we expect the sensor on the back to be bigger. And we are right – 20MP, with its own LED flash. The design on the back is rounded off by antenna bands and a fingerprint reader.

Under the frame is an octa-core 1.3GHz processor that makes use of 3GB RAM for its smooth operations. The internal 32GB is given a microSD card slot by which it can be expanded to 256GB. Supporting 4G network out of the box, the Android 7.0 Nougat-run smartphone is powered by a 4000mAh battery.

6 Huawei GR3 (2017)

Huawei GR3 (2017)

One of the devices that Huawei deems it fit to update with newer versions yearly is the GR3 line-up. What we see on the Huawei GR3 (2017) is an octa-core 1.5GHz MTK processor that has 2GB of RAM at its disposal.

Packing 16GB of internal memory, users will be able to push it as far as 128GB. All of these specs will be supported by the 5-inch HD screen.

Coming on to the surface, we have a 13MP camera on the back with its own LED flash and a 5MP shooter in front. Finally, the Android 5.1 Lollipop unit will make do with a 2200mAh battery.

Found one you like there? Or maybe you feel another device should have made our list of the best android phones under 70000 naira? Whatever it is, let’s hear your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.

Battery capacity is not really the Lenovo S5’s forte but it carries just enough for daily use. Speaking of which you have 3, 000mAh non removable Li-Po battery. That aside, the smartphone charges through a USB Type-C port along with support for quick charge technology.

4 Best VPNs for Tor – Recommendations

VPN and Tor are tools that work with a combination of proxies and integrate encryption to ensure your online privacy is enhanced by shielding your identity.  Consumer VPNs are great tools when it comes to bypassing censorship, watching Netflix and anonymizing users from being tracked by either their ISPs or anyone online.

What is Tor and a VPN?

Tor and VPNs have some common similarities when it comes to online privacy but Tor is good for matters of anonymity while a VPN is great when it comes to ensuring user’s online privacy. A VPN hides the real IP address of a user and assigns you with a new IP address thus making it difficult for spies and also ISP to monitor your online activities.

Tor or also known as The Onion Router is a private network that comprises numerous volunteer-operated servers.  Tor works by rerouting users through a set of virtual tunnels just like it is with a VPN but it relies on the frequent data tunneling which ensures that users are safe while browsing the internet. The good thing about Tor is that it makes your browsing untraceable by bypassing the traffic surveillance that is usually available on normal web usage.

It is worth noting that a VPN is helpful especially when accessing the Deep Web and Darknet Marketers as there are risks associated with those dark web sites that can only be minimized by a VPN.

Recommended VPN services

Today, many internet users are wondering how to find the best VPN for Tor and that’s why we have decided to make things simple to you by listing some of the suitable VPNs for Tor as below.

Read with me!

1. TorVPN

If you value your identity especially while online then TorVPN is for you. This VPN will shield your online activities by hiding you from conventional traffic analysis. TorVPN as a company operates numerous servers in US, Europe, and Hong Kong. The good thing about this VPN is that it offers unlimited speed on all its servers. It also ensures your data is shielded to prevent hackers from hacking or cracking it.

2. NordVPN

NordVPN is based in Panama and comes with high comprehensible features. This VPN helps to reroute device’s traffic through a VPN through a Tor network. Another comprehensible feature is the double data encryption which offers solid protection. The good thing about these features is that when the connection is interrupted, the kill switch disconnects all devices from accessing the safeguarded web. The Nord Company offers a zero logs policy and a 256-bit AES encryption. You can pay for your VPN services using Bitcoin. Apps are available for every major hardware and operating system.

3. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN is the most commonly used today and lately, launched a .onion version of its site for online users who want to create accounts in incognito mode. The reason why this VPN is loved by many online users is that it offers a great level of performance and it’s also the fastest tool in the market. Another good thing about ExpressVPN is that offers its users split tunneling.

This VPN service provider also boasts a zero log policy and accepts bitcoin. The no-log policy helps users to create a completely anonymous account on ExpressVPN network that is untraceable. This VPN offer supports Netflix spoofing. Although the ExpressVPN is sold at a higher price than the other VPNs, it works well and without any outstanding flaws.

4. BolehVPN

BolehVPN is a popularly used in Asia and supports Tor over VPN on certain OpenVPN TCP servers. The reason why it is a popular VPN is Asia is because it’s headquartered in Malaysia.  Malaysia is a country that hasn’t enshrined laws that give permissions for data to be taken from private servers by third-party. Although BolehVPN has servers situated in 11 states, it offers users with unlimited internet speeds while browsing. You can pay for this VPN service via MolPay, PayPal, and direct deposits. Unlike the other types of VPN discussed above, this service doesn’t accept Bitcoin or any other type of crypto-currency. However, its compatibility with Tor is great and the encryption standard is good.

Conclusion

When taking into account all features that come with the above VPN services, the ExpressVPN is the best VPN for Tor. However, the other VPN services are also incredible.

5 Defense Vehicles That Showcase the Best of Military Technology

Today’s defense vehicles are feats of modern engineering. They are the most capable off-road vehicles, able to operate in the harshest environments and most challenging conditions. Some, like the modern battle tank, host some serious firepower, while others are purpose-built for tactical requirements.

To celebrate the might and power of these state-of-the-art feats of engineering, we’ve rounded up the five most impressive land-based defense vehicles currently roaming the planet.

1. Abrams M1A2

Abrams M1A2

In mechanized combat, the role of the tip of the spear goes to the main battle tank. A heavily fortified mobile fortress, the main battle tank has seen its role change from a light but cumbersome armored vehicle to a physically imposing yet mobile force of nature delivering devastating firepower.

And few main battle tanks today are as combat-proven as the U.S Army’s Abrams M1A2. Incorporating the experience from developing the M1A1, the M1A2 is a worthy successor. The M1A2 delivers superior firepower thanks to its 120mm XM256 smoothbore cannon, two 7.62mm M240 machine guns, and a .50 cal M2 machine gun. Its armaments are supported by a highly defensible, heavy exterior and integrated computer systems offering high levels of protection and tactical awareness.

2. Willys MB

Few mechanized units are as iconic as the Willys MB, and fewer still have had such an enduring legacy. Indeed, its unprecedented versatility and utility earned praised from then-President Eisenhower, stating, “America could not have won World War II without it.”

The Willys-Overland MB or, as it’s better known, the Jeep, is said to have been considered for modernized warfare, replacing horses and motorcycles with a standardized mechanized fleet. It was a very effective land vehicle, featuring outstanding performance thanks to its 4×4 design and its ability to generate 60 horsepower at 4,000 rpm meant it commandeered various utility roles with improved efficiency and durability.

Post-war, the Jeep has translated well into the commercial automotive market, creating with it a subculture of fans and admirers alike.

3. MRAPs

JAIS 6x6 MRAP version

The introduction of asymmetrical tactics and the prolific use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in combat theatre gave rise to the stalwart of any land-based mechanized fleet today; the mine-resistant, ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle. There is anecdotal evidence of the MRAPs abilities on the modern battlefield. Many in fact, have been credited for saving countless of lives against the threat of asymmetrical warfare.

One such example is the JAIS range of vehicles. Featuring a 4×4 and 6×6 configuration, the JAIS provides exceptional protection, in part to its state-of-the-art “crew citadel” protection system, without sacrificing tactical mobility. Its modular design enables the JAIS to serve a variety of operational roles, from an infantry fighting vehicle to command and control, and even engineering and recovery.

4. Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Mercedes Benz G-Class

If the American-made High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle or HMMWV for short had an equivalent counterpart, it would be the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Also known as the G-Wagon, G-Wagen, or Gelandwagen, the G-Class was first built as a military vehicle in the 1970s. Its original design featured various configurations, such as a short or long wheelbase, a selection of petrol and diesel engines, and two- or four-door finish.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was a favorite among many military forces, with 63 armies employing the G-Class as part of their light utility fleet. In fact, Mercedes-Benz has guaranteed continued production of the G-Class for NATO as a support vehicle until 2025. Aside from its various body configurations and superficial designs, the G-Class is known for its outstanding tactical mobility across all terrain conditions.

5. AJBAN LRSOV

AJBAN LRSOV

When the special forces community requires a vehicle designed for a great crossover between mission requirements and operational capabilities, they turn to the AJBAN LRSOV, the UAE’s long-range reconnaissance vehicle. An open-top 4×4 light utility vehicle, the AJBAN LRSOV is highly modular and configurable to accommodate a full range of user-specific equipment.

The LRSOV is exceptionally transportable, able to be helicopter-inserted to perform high-speed responses in the remotest of sites. A fully protected tactical vehicle, the LRSOV comes equipped with a high-mounted heavy machine gun ring and gun mounts across all crew positions. The LRSOV can also be outfitted with ballistic and blast protection for added crew survivability.

Conclusion

The best military vehicles highlight some of the best military technology ever to traverse a combat theatre. Offering superior protection, firepower, and mobility, these five primary mobile platforms have been developed to meet the diverse requirements of today’s modern battlefield.

7 Tips for Choosing the Best Accounting Software for Business

$

Yesterday, we started with some of the best accounting softwares for your small business. If you had seen that list too, you will agree that there is none on that list that is not worthy of using. That is where the confusion sets in.

So that you end up picking just the best option for your business – no matter the scale – I have compiled the things to consider when choosing the best accounting software for business purposes.

1 Cost

We would be kidding ourselves if this list started with something else.

Your business is run on expenses and incomes, the net of which gives you your profit. The right way to do business is to minimise your costs and maximise your profits (while not cutting corners with quality).

Depending on the scale of your business, or available budget, you will want to choose an accounting software that your pocket agrees with.

2 Ease of Use

The ease with which the software can be used should also be considered. This is especially important when such an accounting software will not be used by those that have prior knowledge of accounting.

For example, SAP is made for company-wide use by non-accounting professionals too. Others might be exclusive to just those with knowledge of keeping books.

3 Features

What are the basic things you will like your accounting software to do? Options like Sage One Accounting will handle your payrolls and invoice with traditional accounting tasks. When you get to SAP, you get blessed with features such as inventory management and order control.

Accounting softwares now do more than just record money going in and out of the business. Pick the features you like and select the one that best fits the criteria

4 Industry

Different industries have different styles of accounting. If the accounting software you had in mind was not made specifically for/ cannot be customised to suit your industry, best believe that it is not the best accounting software for business. At least, not in your case.

While generic softwares will be much easier to use, it will be more pleasing to use something modelled for your industry

5 Size of Business

Even if you are starting small, you should always learn to think big. Afterall, you don’t plan to remain small for years to come.

When applying that thought to your business decisions, apply it to the kind of accounting software you are getting too. If your software has the capacity of holding records in the biggest hundreds of thousands, what happens when the business starts raking in millions?

6 Support

We don’t consider it anywhere near the best accounting software for business if it does not come with support. Not ‘Reply to my mail after a month’ kind of support, but real-time support.

As is with any type of software, you/ the users are bound to run into snags at one point or the other. Depending on what software you are using, that can effectively slow down your operations. A slowdown of operations means you are losing money, and that is bad news. See?

That is why we advocate those accounting softwares with a strong support system to users

7 Compatibility

Windows is the popular operating system used in offices around the world, but it is not the only one.

Before you put money down on that software, have you checked to see if it is compatible with the operating system on the computer units you plan to use them on?

Conclusion

I will always maintain that there are a lot of great accounting softwares out there, so much that I cannot even begin to list them all. However, only a fraction of these would be great for your business and quite a handful will be the best you could ever go for.

Applying all that has been said here, which of our top picks would you rather go for?

What is a Smart Contract?

$
0
0

Blockchains, the technology which sits underneath cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are decentralized ledgers, held by a trustworthy source which tracks who owns what. Long after the Bitcoin hype has died down and the currency has settled at ‘normal’ levels, Blockchains are likely to remain and could underpin much of the high value transaction processing that currently only banks can perform.

Blockchains solve some of the most pressing issues associated with internet trades. Because they hold information securely on multiple computers in parallel they are hard to hack. Since they are decentralized, there are no middle men taking a cut simply for having the only machine that can conduct it. The system is far from perfect as it stands but it holds promise.

Blockchains also have facilities that current processing technology does not. The most useful of these are ‘smart contracts’.

Smart contracts can sit within Blockchains

Smart contracts are also known as ‘Self Executing Contracts.’ Blockchains are electronic in nature which offers the opportunity to build logic into them. Smart contracts are conditional terms which can be stored in many ledgers at once, as a series of rules and which will perform their task automatically.

Since, there can be multiple Blockchains, each storing different types and sorts of information, we might end up with a number of them, backed by institutions we trust (for example, the government) and combining to execute these smart contract agreements.

An example of how smart contracts might work in real life

Here’s an example of how a smart contract might work in this sort of environment.

Imagine buying your prepaid plan at the local supermarket. You explain what you want to the cashier. He or she takes your money, hits a few keys, confirms your identity with a driver’s license and provides you your prepaid pack.

Now, imagine the same transaction in a world with multiple Blockchains. Let’s assume the US Government has released a Blockchain, which it now uses to verify the identity of citizens. This USA Blockchain is backed by the administration so it is trust worthy and holds details of your social security, birth certificate, driver’s license and, if you’re married, a marriage certificate. For the purposes of this example, you want to buy a prepaid plan, so you’re filling in a form on the AT&T website, from your mobile phone.

The smart contract in the Blockchain behind the website simply waits, as computers will do, forever, until you provide 2 things.

  • First, a payment of $20 (the sticker price of the prepaid plan you’re buying.) For this component of the transaction, you use a proportion of your Bitcoin balance which is held in the Blockchain to pay for that.
  • Secondly you have to provide your ID for verification. The AT&T Blockchain contacts the government Blockchain which, since you’ve authorized it, confirms your ID for this purpose.

The process hasn’t changed. However, the variables involved are now provided once to a Blockchain, issued by a trusted source which stores them securely until you need it. The process no longer includes a cashier at a supermarket. The Blockchain itself conducts the transaction, issuing the prepaid SIM pack when the conditions required are met – here, when ID is provided and payment is made. The logic for the whole thing is built in to the Blockchain. You might also notice, there was no bank involved at all.

Why do we need Smart Contracts?

Contract

Smart contracts are clear, easy to build and manage, include no middlemen so they’re cheaper and are more efficient than the delays in payment processing which the banks now currently add. They’re not pie in the sky, either. Ripple, the world’s largest Blockchain can conduct smart contract agreements and is currently valued at $20 billion.

As we’ve said, however, Blockchains in their current form are not perfect. There is a cost in electricity to conduct transactions in Blockchain and it’s rising exponentially. Some estimates suggest that it costs around $150 USD in electricity (although the price of power varies around the world, 15c / KWh is a representative cost and it currently consumes 1000 KWh to transact over a blockchain. That means that, while the prepaid example demonstrates the concept, it’s far more likely that only significant transactions like the purchase of a house will use Blockchains and smart contracts.

Blockchains hold a great deal of interest for banks, governments and other bodies which issue important, identity related information which is used again and again. They and smart contracts are likely to be the building blocks of future financial infrastructure.
