After releasing smartphones into the mid-range and flagship category, LG has recently put forth its entry level LG K11 Plus which has modest specs in an average looking body. The smartphone was launched in Chile along with a more modest version called LG K11a. The features offered on the smartphone are conventional budget specs part of which include 4G LTE, Fingerprint sensor and an HD screen. As much as the tall slim style of making smartphones is seen in budget smartphones, the LG K11 Plus comes with the 16:9 aspect ratio from the days of yore and an outdated OS.

Design and Display

It is quite easy to confuse the LG K11 Plus for a smartphone made last year instead of a recent launch. One of the reason is that there is a chunk of bezel around the display, especially the one below which does not contain any button whether physical or capacitive. The back cover has the characteristic top central positioned camera with fingerprint reader below. It is available in Moroccan Blue and Terra Gold but this does not have any effect on the unappealing design.

Taking a look at the front of the smartphone, there is a 5.3-inch screen on a space that can comfortably take a 5.5-inch display. I should also point out that it is in 16:9 aspect ratio and with an LCD screes too. As a result of its entry-level status, there is only an HD resolution display here with a 277 ppi pixel density.

Battery and Camera

If you are asking how long the battery will last? The answer to that will be not too long. Inside the LG K11 Plus, there is a mediocre 3, 000mAh battery which works hand in hand with the other budget features. The LG G7 ThinQ is their new flagship with the latest tech and trends like a number of other flagship this year. Size is also no issue as that of the smartphone extends up to 6.1-inch and resolution at 1440 x 3120 pixels.

On paper, the battery is somewhat on the low side and definitely doesn’t sound like much considering the display size and high resolution. However, the processor inside has proven to be a power efficient one and coupled with LG’s power conserving implementations you would be able to get enough time from the 3, 000mAh battery. Design and Appearance

On the rear, the speaker protrudes to the rear and doubles as a permanent kickstand to rest the device either horizontally or vertically. The Smart Display is available on two colour option; a bamboo-textured panel (for 10-inch version only) and gray plastic panel (for 8-inch version only).

Display

The Lenovo Smart Display comes in two different variants on the basis of display size: 8-inch and 10-inch. The smaller variant has a lower high definition (HD) display resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels while the bigger 10-inch variant come with a better and clearer full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels).

The screen comes with certain functions like swiping up from the bottom brings up a settings menu where you can make changes to brightness and other stuff. Swiping from the left edge to the right takes you from the current page to the previous; more like a back/return button would.

The introduction allows more to be done. For example, you ask the smart display for a location, not only will it read about details of the location (like the Google Home Speaker does), it will also display map location, directions, and pictures of the place on the screen. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is the latest product from the Chinese gadget manufacturer’s ‘Mi Pad’ line of tablet. The device is the successor to the Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 which was released over a year ago and you can surely trust Xiaomi to do bring on board improved features on this new device compared to its predecessor.

The display is an IPS LCD type and has a resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels and a 283 ppi pixel density. The tablet has a 16:10 aspect ratio with bezels which have become tad bit slimmer. The curved edges of the display also does add to the aesthetic properties of the tablet.

Camera

The primary camera is a 13-megapixels shooter situated at the top-left corner of the device. On the front, placed centrally at the top of the display, is a 5MP selfie camera. Both sensor lack LED flashlight support but take top quality pictures.

As a cherry on top, the front-facing camera come with AI support for facial recognition (face unlock).

Processor and Storage

Per storage, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 comes in two different RAM and ROM combo. The standard variant has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory while the second variant has bigger storage capacity; 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64GB built-in storage.

All version of the Mi Pad 4 are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 system-on-chip with eight cores that can clock up to 2.2GHz and laced with the Adreno 512 GPU to handle graphics. The tablet comes out of the box with Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 9.0 OS (based on Android Oreo v8.1).

The V-series on LG has always been about the premium smartphomes, from last year’s LG V30 to the V30s ThinQ released at the MWC earlier this year. Now the LG V35 ThinQ is the latest in line and it has some quite juicy specs but nothing out of the ordinary. The smartphone qualifies as a premium smartphone in every way from the glass build outside to the top notch hardware on the inside. Compared to the G7 ThinQ and its predecessor, the smartphone now has a bigger RAM and battery capacity.

Design and Display

Pertaining to the smartphone looks, the LG V35 ThinQ has a premium build with appealing aesthetics and a simple stylish design. In case you don’t like the notch, the smartphone may be of choice and also has highly reduced bezels to give you a compact phone. Besides that, it is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back and like LG phones the fingerprint sensor at the rear serve as the power button. First of a new budget Z-series, the smartphone might as well be called the first of its kind. The Vivo Z1 is a mid-range smartphone one with some fascinating features that we are going to be looking at as we progress. Before talking about the phone, I would like for you to go down memory lane to a while back earlier this year when Vivo unveiled its Vivo Apex concept phone that offers an all screen experience. Vivo has made good on their promise with the release of the smartphone, although, with a chin at the bottom. The smartphone comes with innovative technology and is available in two variants namely the Vivo Nex S and Nex A. The Vivo Nex S being the more premium version but with more or less the same outlook as the other model.

Design and Display

Vivo has made this smartphone in a way that makes you think both in but premium when you set your eyes on it. Boasting of a glass bodywork and well rounded corners sitting well in your hands when grasped. The smartphone is quite a big one but this is hardly a problem, except you have an exceptionally small hand due to its modern aspect ratio.

There is also the pop-up camera, underscreen fingerprint sensor and a Screen Soundcasting tech I place of the earpiece speaker. Just to be clear, if you are reading this, you pretty much are aware of Google’s model of giving it’s operating system food names in alphabetical order, right? Anyway, that’s not the core of this article. Google has officially unveiled the newest of its Android operating system. And, of course, it is named after a food.

The used-to-be latest OS was the “Android O” which was named after the popular chocolate cookie brand, Oreo. Now, the succeeding and latest OS has the codename “Android P” and no, P doesn’t stand for Pineapple, Pickles, Papaya, Parmesan, or Potato as many have earlier guessed.

The P is for Pie; Android Pie or Android 9 Pie it is! And though the name is entirely new information, several Android users have had the benefit of toying around and getting acquainted to some the new OS’ features as far back as March when Google commenced the release different version of the Android 9 Pie Developer Preview.

Now, the stable version of the Android 9 Pie is officially available and we shall be highlighting 10 interesting features of the OS and supported devices.

Android 9 Pie: Features

The Android 9 Pie comes with a bunch of new features and also, an improvement to features on older OS. But basically, the core of the features and functionalities of the Android P revolves around Artificial Intelligence (AI) aimed at improving user-phone acquaintanceship.

Below are some of the new additions that comes with the Android 9 Pie operating system:

1. Adaptative Battery

With every gadget, every smartphone, and every OS ever released, users still never seem to get the best out of their battery, even with battery saving measures OEMs have installed on their devices. Battery longevity is one thing Google aims to extend on every Android smartphone with the Android 9 Pie.

The Android 9 will use ‘AI Powers’ to identify frequently used apps and apps you barely use and in turn limit battery usage of the less frequently apps; all done smartly and by itself.

In addition to Adaptive Battery, the Settings menu now come with recommendations on battery draining apps to restrict, so you can have more control over your battery and more battery juice.

2. Adaptative Brightness

Again, using AI, the Android 9 Pie allows your phone study how you set your screen’s brightness in different environmental lighting conditions and automatically does adjusts your screen brightness for you over time according to your preference.

3. New Navigation buttons & Gesture control

Although totally optional, the regular three-keys on-screen navigation keys (home, return, and app switch) that were used in previous OS have been replaced with a pill-shaped home button with smart gesture control at the centre and a return key at the left hand left-hand

With the new pill shappill-shapedton, you can:

• Swipe left or right to switch between apps

4. Redefined Media Control

You know how the volume adjustment panel used to appear along the top of the screen? Well, we won’t be seeing that on the Android 9 as Google has made significant changes.

The volume slider will appear on the right side if the display in the Android P alongside an icon at the top which allows users easily turn off all notifications, put their devices on vibrate, or keep notifications on. The gear icon at the bottom of the slider opens up the sound settings where you can make adjustments to alarms volume, ringer, call, media etc.

5. Image Preview in Message Notification

In previous Android OS, you could only peek a preview of the text aspect of a message in the notification bar. On the Android 9 Pie, you can now preview images as well.

6. App Actions

App actions is another interesting new feature that comes with the Android 9 Pie which also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to learn what apps user make use of on their devices at different times of the day and make suggestions off it later on.

When you open the app drawer, right below the favourite/most used apps that are lined up below the search bar are the ‘App action cards’. The Android Pie makes your phone learn what apps you use at different times of the day and will show different App Actions in the app drawer.

Basically, the idea behind the App action is predicting/guessing what it (your phone) thinks you might want to do next using previous activities you carried out at that particular period in previous days or months.

7. Smart Do Not Disturb

The Do Not Disturb mode has been completely redefined on the Android Pie. Turning over your phone will now automatically turn on the Do Not Disturb mode but you can get calls from selected contacts. A new ‘Wind Down’ also works with the Do Not Disturb mode to encourage users sleep better at night by greying out the display and turning off notifications.

8. Virtual Notch

Display notches have been the thing of the year on the smartphone world and now, Google officially adds support for these screen cutout so developers can build apps that responds well to these cutouts on hardware without glitches.

9. Dashboard

The Android 9 Pie comes with something called ‘Dashboard’ which gives you hindsight around how often your device is used, how much time you spend on your phone, how much time you spend in apps, number of notifications you get and more.

10. Bluetooth connection and volume

The Android 9 Pie supports multiple Bluetooth connections with up to five devices and allows seamless switch between the connected devices. In addition, Android 9 will store the last volume you set for each of your Bluetooth devices and adopt the volume level when next you connect it to your phone. “No more blasting music too loudly when you reconnect to your car or headphones”, Google says.

Despite the number of reports and statistics evidencing the decline in shipment and usage of tablets, Samsung Mobile officially announces its latest addition to its tablet line of product, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4.

With the Galaxy Tab S4, Samsung seeks to improve productivity and redefine the way people use tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is a convertible tablet PC that doubles as a standard Android tablet and a makeshift laptop. And thanks to its many powerful features, the Galaxy Tab S4 is up to the task of rivaling convertible tablet flagships from other top brand like the recently launched Microsoft Surface Go.

Before delving to highlight some of the major features of the Galaxy Tab S4, peek some of its basic specs under the header below:

Design

Body and Appearance

The Galaxy Tab S4 comes in a simple, plain, and slate-like design common to many Android tablets out there. The tablet, however, has a premium appearance as it is covered in glass both on the front and rear. While the glass covering improves the aesthetic rating of the device, it retains fingerprint smears which sometimes dulls out the beauty of the tablet.

The lightweight nature of the tablet (weighs 482 grams) is another feature to admire as this would allow for seamless ease of carriage. In addition, at 7.1mm thickness, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 might just be the slimmest tablet PC ever.

On the left side of the tablet, there are four shiny gold metal connecting pin for connecting the tablet to the accessory keyboard and the tablet’s micro SD card slot. On the other (right-hand) side are the volume adjustment buttons, power button, while the 3.5mm audio jack and fast charging USB-C are at the bottom.

Iris Scanner and Facial Recognition

Since the tablet lacks a fingerprint sensor, the options left to unlock the Galaxy Tab S4 are facial recognition and iris scanner. While these may sound innovative, a front-facing fingerprint sensor that doubles as the home button would have been a better option.

Keyboard

Samsung calls the attachable keyboard the ‘Book Cover Keyboard’ because not only is it used for typing, it serves as a tablet case that protects the Galaxy Tab S4 against dirt and shattering from accidental dropping of the tablet.

The keys on the keyboard are smooth but quite small; you might struggle with typing fast and smooth at first but will adapt over time. Another thing is that it lacks a mouse trackpad like the Microsoft Surface Go’s case keyboard. However, the built-in stylus pen or a Bluetooth mouse can serve as a perfect alternative. The keys aren’t backlit as well. And except you have mastered the art of typing on the (or on any) keyboard, you might find it difficult typing at night or in dark rooms.

The Book Cover Keyboard connects to the Galaxy Tab S4 using the POGO connection pins on the lefthand side of the device. Interestingly, there is an on-screen keyboard button on the screen which brings up an Android-like keyboard on the display. If you do not have enough cash to splash on the keyboard case, the on-screen keyboard is perfect, but not for heavy typing tasks.

Stylus Pen

One major advantage of the Galaxy Tab S4 S-Pen stylus is that it comes with the tablet PC out of the box, saving cost on paying extra cash to purchase it as a standalone accessory.

There is a socket on the left side of the keyboard case which house the S Pen. The S Pen can be used to sketch, draw, paint, sign documents, take screenshots, and a couple of other Air Command features.

Display

The screen is a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display in 16:10 aspect ratio and display resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels (287 ppi density). Bezels are now smaller, saturation is good, contrast is good, colours are good, likewise image crispness.

Internal Configuration

The Galaxy Tab S4 is powered by Qualcomm’s Octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset and runs the Android Oreo v8.1 operating system out of the box. Laced with Samsung’s Dex interface, be sure to get the best mobile computing and desktop experience. Created by Samsung, Dex is more like a custom desktop version of Android OS.

Storage-wise, the Tab S4 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage which you can crank up a notch by 400GB using micro SD card. There is also a more expensive variant with 256GB built-in storage.

Battery

Under the hood is a colossal 7,300mAh battery. The battery capacity might not be as big as that of rival tablets (like the Apple iPad Pro) but it sure can get you through a day’s use before needing to recharge.

Price and Where to buy?

The basic version (4GB/64GB) of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has a base price of $649.99. For $100 more, you can pick up the 256GB model at $749.99, which is a fair deal. The keyboard case as a standalone accessory will cost you an additional $149.

The device is presently available on pre-order on Samsung’s website and will officially go on sale by August 10 on Amazon, Verizon, Best Buy amomg other stores.
