In what can be described as the quietest product launch ever from Apple, the Cupertino–based tech giant, last month, released new models to its MacBook Pros line of laptop PCs. Earlier generations of the MacBook Pro had amazing design, software and hardware properties but the MacBook Pro 2018 features has been dubbed “the most advanced Mac notebook ever” by Apple. Design

MacBook Pros are renowned for their particularly stunning and slim aesthetic and   its good to see that the 2018 versions aren’t any different. The MacBook Pro 2018 come in the same dimension, design, and weighs exactly the same as their predecessors. Again, like the versions before them, the MacBook Pro 2018 is available in 2 different screen sizes: 13- and 15-inches respectively.

Another notable design feature of the MacBook Pro 2018 is the revamped keyboard. Apple describes the keyboard on the new Mac as a “third-generation keyboard” which has a silicone membrane that helps take noise made by the keypads during typing down a notch. Aside keeping the keys quiet, the silicone membrane design also eliminates dust interference with the keys.

Oukitel K-series has been a brand known with large battery from day one and while you have the almighty Oukitel K10. There is a minimalist version of that smartphone called the Oukitel K8  which features a lesser battery capacity. The remainder of the spec sheet includes a dual camera, 18:9 big display with fast charge added and other cool features  Although, it is a  bit behind in terms of specs when compared with the Oukitel K10 which is a flagship of some sort.

Design and Display

Taking after the recent rollout of smartphones whose common feature includes the presence of a tall, slim build and a need for trimmed down bezels. The Oukitel K8 has a similar outline, even if it deviates in the part where it isn’t svelte due largely to the big battery featured in it. One on top of the other, the camera are stacked at the middle part of the rear panel with Oukitel pasted at the bottom alongside some other information. The smartphone is only available in space grey colour and weighs a staggering  233.9g.

Lenovo unveils 2 new laptop flagships, the Lenovo Thinkpad P1 and P72, to its Thinkpad P line of PC. Basically, the two new additions are powerful workstations that bring high-end premium-ness —in the aspect of performance and design— on board.

Lenovo is one of those company that’s moving up the ladder in terms of creativity and innovation. The brand has been quite busy lately with research and development as well as production. Over the last couple of months, we’ve witnessed the company release a top-of-the-line premium and powerful 2-in-1 PC, the first smart home assistant with display in partnership with Google, and now, the slimmest and lightest of its product, the Thinkpad P1.

“When we set out to create the ThinkPad P1, we knew our challenge was to build a mobile workstation that would carry the legacy of professional power and reliability of our ThinkPad portfolio, but also meet our customer’s need for a thin, light and sleek design,” said Rob Herman, General Manager of Workstations, Lenovo.

The Thinkpad P1 comes in a matte-black design. The body frame of the workstation is made out of black carbon fiber which helps contribute bigly to the lightweight nature of the Thinkpad — 17.8 mm (0.7 inch) thick and weighs 1.7 kg (3.76 pounds). To add: the carbon fiber chassis helps bump up the toughness of the laptop as, according to Lenovo, it can withstand cold, heat, humidity, dust, shock, fungus, and other regular tough environmental conditions.

To create a thin masterpiece out of the ThinkPad P1, Lenovo had to cut down on power supply by 35 percent. So do not expect much from this new workstation in terms of power.

The Thinkpad P1 has a backlit keyboard with a seamless design and a fingerprint scanner at the front. Another feature creatives or professionals might love is how Lenovo laced the Thinkpad P1 with all the ports you might possibly need; eliminates the need to purchase additional adapters or docking station.

On the left-hand side [from left to right], the power/charging port (1), dual Intel® Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports (2), a HDMI 2.0 (3), mini gigabit ethernet (4), and 3.5mm headphone jack (6) are neatly planted.

On the other (right-hand) side, a smart card slot (optional), SD card reader (7), dual USB 3.1 ports(8), and a Kensington lock slot (9) are housed.

Per display, there are two available options to choose from. Although the two variants both come in the same size (15.6-inch), they differ in resolution. The first model has Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, 300nits brightness, and 72% color gamut. With a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution, anti-reflective / anti-smudge properties, 400 nits brightness, and 10-bit color depth, the second variant is the better and pricier model of the duo.

The only thing somewhat modern feature in its build is the fact that it has an 18:9 aspect ratio and not too much bezels. The back cover is removable and has a camera placed centrally while the flashlight is below it in the same cylindrical space.

Fair enough, the Wiko Lenny 5 does quite well within the scope of a low-end smartphone with Go Android OS. Wiko as always been about the budget smartphones and bringing some level of quality to its products. The Wiko View Max is one of the evidence of its expertise in making entry level smartphones. In the area, the smartphone focus is featuring a large display. It is a bit difficult to come across a smartphone with a big battery like you have in the Oukitel K-series. The key difference between the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and Redmi 6 Pro is the software feature on it, the former runs on Android One while the latter on MIUI 9.6 based on the Android 8.1 Oreo. The radio band on the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is also better suited for use outside China,  and features Google Play pre-installed unlike the Redmi 6 Pro that doesn’t.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has a characteristical Xiaomi type of build featured on the Mi Max and Redmi series.  Made from the conjunction of plastic and metal, the smartphone feels premium when held with a slim elegant design. The flashlight on the rear is flanked by two cameras vertically and a fingerprint sensor at the center. You will also see plastic encased top and bottom for more radio reception which is very much evident especially on the Gold varuant. Other available colour options are Blue and Black while the Red variant is only available on the Redmi 6 Pro available in China.

Xiaomi has always been that Chinese OEM to look out for due to a number of reasons one of which is afforfability. The tech giant took it upon itself to make the cheapest flagship yet, hence, comes the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. Pocophone is a new sub-brand which is concerned with making flagships at a very much reduced price. The first in the series is the Pocophone F1 and it has a promising future if you ask me because it packs a lot of feature at an ideal price.

Design and Display

The most obvious price cut featured comes in the design of the smartphone which is plastic on the ordinary model. Although sturdy, a plastic is only still a plastic no matter how good it looks and is also a bad conductor of heat. However, the issue have been rectified by featuring vapour chamber with a network of copper pipes to cool the internals. You could also opt for an ‘Armoured’ version which has Kevlar covering instead of plastic.

There is the notch which looks like an iPhone X cutout housing the infrared illuminator, camera, earpiece that also doubles has a speaker and other sensors. It packs audio jack, infrared blaster, USB Type-C and bottom firing speaker all on the smartphone.

Premium quality is brought to the screen on the smartphone too with its 1080p IPS panel. Not the best display around but it does offer a decent colourful and radiant visuals. Large display is the rave at the moment, and the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 delivers a substantial 6.18-inch of it in a 18.7:9 aspect ratio.

Battery and Camera

It comes with the battery capacity featured in most of the Redmi smartphones released this year and has you know the numbers are large. The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 gets a 4, 000mAh battery inside with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. According to gsmarena, it has a 94 hours endurance rating which involves web browsing, calls and video playback.

Most flagships nowadays if not all, feature more than one rear camera and the same thing happens here. The Pocophone F1 comes with a dual rear camera, the same primary camera is the same as that on the Xiaomi Mi 8 which is a 12MP sensor and a 5MP camera for depth focus. To the front of the smartphone you will find a 20MP f/2.0 aperture camera capable of shooting HDR. The smartphone comes with electronic image stabilization (EIS) but doesn’t have OIS

Hardware and Software

Where you know a true flagship is in the hardware section and the Pocophone F1 comes with the latest of them all from Qualcomm. Powered by the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and joined by Adreno 630 GPU. The smartphone works smoothly with benchmark scores that puts it well within the range of other flagships.

Furthermore, there are different models varying in memory and storage size. There is a 6GB RAM variant having either 64GB or 128GB storage space. The more expensive one has 8GB internal memory and 256GB built-in storage. It also features an hybrid memory card slot that supports expansion by up to 256GB. The smartphone boots Android 8.1 Oreo but with a different skin from MIUI that Xiaomi smartphones have. Instead it has a close to stock POCO UI layered on top but still very much similar to MIUI.

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 Pricing and Availability

The 6GB/64GB option sells for about 109, 000 Naira, 6GB/128GB for close to 124, 000 Naira while the 8GB/256GB model for about 150, 000 Naira. The Kevlar covered variant is only available in the 8GB/256GB option and it goes for 155, 000 Naira.
